Other Things to Do

There are so many things to see and do in the Monterey Peninsula area that one really needs more than just a few days. So, to make this trip to Pacific SharkFest very memorable for you, we suggest you come early or stay late and take in some sights. There are formal tours, bicycling, kayaking, and walking tours. Below are just a few of the popular things to see and do. We have left free time for you to see some of these sites.

CANNERY ROW

This historical area of Monterey, immortalized by John Steinbeck’s classic novel, is world-renowned for it history of fishing and classic architecture. In addition to many shops, restaurants, and splendid bay views, it is also home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. (http://www.montereybayaquarium.org) This famous attraction features a plethora of aquatic animals; from octopus, sharks, and rays to sea otters and seals. A must see in Monterey.

For wine tasting, visit the Scheid wine Lounge, 751 Cannery Row (http://www.scheidvineyards.com or A Taste of Monterey, 700 Cannery Row, http://www.atasteofmonterey.com, where you can taste a variety of wines from different vineyards.

There are also museums and art galleries for your perusal.

MONTEREY

Downtown Monterey and the Custom House Plaza contain many examples of the early adobe buildings dating to before California became part of the United States. A self-guided walking tour of most of these old adobes is marked with the “Path of History” medallions cast into the sidewalks. The Municipal Wharf has many gift shops, and restaurants.

WHALE WATCHING

If you have 2 1/2 to 3 hours to spare and don’t get seasick, then try a bay tour at Princess Whale Watching, 96 Fisherman’s Wharf . In addition to seeing the beautiful California coast from the water, you may also see whales, dolphins, and sea otters. http://www.princessmontereywhalewatching.com

CARMEL MISSION

Located on Rio Road, just 7/10 of a mile from our hotel, the San Carlos Borroneo de Carmelo Mission is the 2nd oldest Mission in upper California and was home to Father Junipero Serra. It is now an active parish, and it also contains a fine museum. http://www.carmelmission.org

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA

This famous stomping ground of the rich and famous is just a short drive from the Carmel Mission Inn. It is a quaint old village by the ocean featuring unique shops, art galleries and dining to please anyone. Bring your walking shoes! http://www.carmelcalifornia.com/

CARMEL VALLEY

After a beautiful drive along Carmel Valley Road, one arrives at the serene setting of Carmel Valley Village. This area is home to luscious golf courses, exquisite dining, and hosts many fine wine-tasting rooms in a beautiful wooded setting.
